National Junior Honor Society recognizes one of their very own! There is survivor amongst us…..

The Caroline Middle School Commons area was filled with lunchroom chatter when a hush came over the room as Vice President, Jordyn Rollins-Williams, speaks on behalf of the Caroline Middle School, National Junior Honor Society. Approximately sixty National Junior Honor Society members gathered at the front of the commons, before their peers and teachers as Jordon Mines carried a basket filled with over fifty pink and white items. They gathered to honor a breast cancer survivor among them, CMS Eighth Grade Science Teacher, Mrs. Rosina Allen.

The month of October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, October marks the annual campaign to increase the awareness of Breast Cancer. Along with the mission of the foundation, the NJHS members wanted to do something extra special to raise awareness.

NJHS Cabinet Members, Lydia Startx and Jordyn Rollins-Williams, initiated the “Out of the Box” idea at the September monthly meeting of recognizing one of our very own teachers among us who is a breast cancer survivor.

After some research by NJHS Sponsor, Shermeka Baker-Latney, Mrs. Allen was the perfect fit. She is a survivor for over 17 years with a powerful testimony. “My mother and sister both were survivors of breast cancer so my faith was already rooted strong in the Lord”, expressed Mrs. Allen.

This is the first time ever a teacher has been recognized and honored for Breast Cancer Awareness at Caroline Middle School.
